Kelong's -- Fishermen Homes

This afternoon we went to Pasir Ris via bus and train and saw some Kelong's. These are homes on the water and are used by fisherman.

I have included pictures of the bus and train so our grandkids can see how we travel each day. Ellie and Kadence may remember from last year when they were here to visit us and rode the bus and train too.

Here comes our train...

Looking out the window of train.

Larry and a friend of ours by the Pasir Ris beach area...notice the kelong's out on the strait.

We were told if interested you can get a "room" to stay in on these floating houses.
I think you would really have to enjoy the smell of fish :)

This short video is of some street entertainers and a glimpse of the street decorations near China Town in Singapore.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Tonight we went to the China Town area in Singapore to enjoy the colorful displays in the shops and on the streets. I have posted lots of pictures so you can get a good sense of the excitement of the Chinese New Year.

Happy Birthday Darlene!!!

The month of January is sneaking by so quickly. I want to take this opportunity to wish my sister Darlene a very Happy Birthday! It was so good to see you in November. You are near to my heart even when the miles separate us.

This is very small but was the best I could find with a picture of you Darlene:)

Birthday Gift Box for Ellie!!!

This week we have a new friend from India staying with us. Cynthia had fun helping me wrap a few of Ellie's birthday gifts so we can get her box in the mail. We had a fun time and I sure hope Ellie enjoys opening these beautiful packages.

Wrapping a gift for Ellie.

Then comes a ribbon design.

Cynthia also treated us to a very nice vegetable dish that she enjoys making.
I didn't have all the spices she needed but it still turned out really good.

Thanks for being the chef tonight Cynthia!
We enjoyed a special meal and wonderful fellowship.

"Living Life"

Recently a friend shared these thoughts with me in a card. I hope they encourage you today as you begin the year.

"The temptation to "think life" rather than live it is a dead-end street. We do not first have all the answers and then live in light of understanding. We must rather plunge into life-- meeting what we have to meet and experiencing what we have to experience-- and in light of living try to understand. If insight comes, it will not be before, but only after and through experience. So plunge ahead into what has to be faced, rather than brooding. Get on with the business of "living life". Face the situation and move on in the darkness. It is God and His Word that give me courage to face the situation and move on into darkness-- we don't always have understanding or answers at that point."

It is living by faith, isn't it?

Happy New Year 2009!!!

Hope you are having a wonderful day on this first day of the year 2009!

It was a beautiful day for a bike ride so we spent most of the morning riding along the coast area trails. It was fun to finally be able to go ride together since I got a bike this week. The area is quite nice but there were way too many people out enjoying the scenery. Also two very hot and sweaty people are in most of my pictures. I wanted to just take scenery shots but somehow these two kept showing up everywhere we went. And that bright turquoise top is very flattering and sure brightens up the photos:) Oh my, it was fun and we got some exercise which is certainly a great need for both of us.

It was fun wishing our kids a Happy New Year via the web cam since we were already into the year 2009 here. I missed reaching S & S but decided not to wake them up since they didn't appear on line. Love you guys...

I stopped to take a call from Angela along the way:) Happy New Year!

Enjoying a shady spot and a breeze off the ocean.

We really did ride most of the time...

Are we having fun yet!!!

It is good that we went riding this morning because now it is raining very hard and if you have ever been in a tropical rain you know what I mean. You get really wet and in a very short time because it dumps buckets of rain. I guess this is the closest to "winter" we will have.

Praying for you...
"We constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith."
